Rhodes School District 84.5

Seventh Grade

The seventh grade curriculum takes an integrated approach to all subject areas. The team teaches many of their skills through thematic units. Science focuses on astronomy, life, and earth science. Social studies is taught with an emphasis on American history up to the Civil war. Reading explores all areas of genre, as well, as many novel studies to apply and conceptualize the core reading strategies. Language Arts will have a new curriculum for the 2011-2012 school year, which will place a strong hold on the Six Traits of writing, a core vocabulary, and APA grammar and mechanics. Some features of the seventh grade are:
US Constitution
Springfield Trip
Rhodes to History Fair
Owl Pellet dissection
Argonne Lab field trip
Chicago Architecture and pasta bridge study
Mystery theme month
