Rhodes School District 84.5

Kindergarten

Rhodes offers 4 full day kindergarten classrooms, one of which is a dual language (one-way immersion) classroom for English language learners to promote biliteracy and competency in both English and Spanish. Kindergarteners will learn early literacy skills which are essential for success in reading.

Kindergarten uses Fundations as our phonics curriculum, Heggerty to practice phonemic awareness, ReadyGen as our reading and writing curriculum, and Go Math as our math curriculum. We also cover content units of study in physical science, life science, Earth and space science, health, and engineering. As well as recognizing rules, transportation, community helpers, diversity, and voting in social studies.

All Kindergarteners will be exposed to art, music, computers, library, Spanish, social emotional learning, and physical education through specialist teachers throughout the week.

Extra help for students is available during school hours via math and reading interventionists, as well as after school hours through Rhodes Academy. Enrichment reading and math is available for students who qualify
