Rhodes School District 84.5

Fourth Grade

All 4th grade students start the day with a unique opportunity to excel in their strengths or improve in their areas of weakness. During 1st period, students either leave for Band, Gifted Reading, Title 1 Reading services, or ELL support. The students remaining in the classroom receive RtI (Response to Intervention) support in both Reading and Math.

Next, teachers dedicate 2 periods to Reading and Language Arts. All teachers use the Scott Foresman Reading Street curriculum and its many differentiated components. Various literacy centers and guided reading groups are planned to offer small group instruction. Through small group instruction, individual needs and levels are met.

All 4th graders participate in Gym daily and Music, Art, Computers, Technology and Library weekly. The afternoon is dedicated to Math, Social Studies and Science. The University of Chicago Everyday Mathematics is our core Math curriculum. This curriculum was carefully crafted to capitalize on student interest and maximize student learning. In Science, teachers use Harcourt School Publishers Science Book. Students receive instruction in life, earth and physical science. In Social Students, students learn about our national history and about the United States and its land and people. Illinois and Our Nation by Macmillian/McGraw Hill is used for our core curriculum.
